About me

I was born close to Milan (Italy), in 1984. I received the Bachelor and Master of Science cum laude in Mechanical Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano in September 2005 and April 2008, respectively. In 2012 I earned the Ph.D. in Information engineering (Control Systems specialization) from Politecnico di Milano under the supervision of Prof. Sergio Savaresi.

I held a post-doc position at the University of Trento and at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology of Zuerich (ETHZ)

At the present, I'm a Assistant Professor with the Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informazione e Bioingegneria at Politecnico di Milano and a senior member in the mOve research team.

My main research interests concern the automotive field, in particular the vehicle dynamics analysis and control system design along with the related estimation issues.

Research overview

My major research interst is focused on control and estimation problems in the automotive field. Among the several topics that automotive engineering proposes, I'm particulalry interested in:

  • Engine control
    The actual research on engine control is manly pushed by future strict legislation about emissions reduction. On one side, more accurate engine regulation is required to gurantee high and robust perfomance over the whole engine operating region. On the other side the new active aftertreatment systems require to develop ad-hoc control solutions.
  • Two-wheeled vehicle dyamic control
    The research activity deals with the analysis and control of two-wheeled vehicles dynamic. Mainly due to important differences between their dynamics (e.g. high roll angle, important load transfer etc..) the same control solutions adopted for four-wheeled vehicles cannot be employed. Moreover, in order to provide the best controller performances, one parallel research stream aims at estimating the vehicle attitude by means of inertial measurements; another deals with the low level control of drive-by-wire actuators.
  • Four-wheeled vehicle dyamic control
    Within the context of classic vehicle chassis control (longitudinal, lateral and vertical) the research activity explores the possibilities given by the employment of innovative actuators, such as active central transfer case or aerodynamic surfaces. Another research interest addresses powertrain control strategies.

A minor research interest deals with the mixed time/frequency domain data identification for linear systems. In contrast with the commond tendency to bring data in the favored domain to perform identification, my research studies a joint time/frequency domain identification method that allows to handle both data types in their own natural domain, taking advantage of the well established traditional techniques of system identification.
