Brief biography

Maria Prandini obtained the Laurea degree in Electrical Engineering (Politecnico di Milano, 1994), and the Ph.D. degree in Information Technology (University of Brescia, 1998) with a dissertation on adaptive control of stochastic systems.

After receiving her Ph.D., she was a visiting postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, University of California at Berkeley, from 1998 to 2000. She also held visiting positions at Delft University of Technology (1998), Cambridge University (2000), UC Berkeley (2005), and ETH Zurich (2006). From December 2002 to January 2011 she was Assistant Professor at the Dipartimento di Elettronica e Informazione of the Politecnico di Milano.

From February 2011 to February 2018, she was Asssociate Professor at the Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informazione e Bioingegneria of the Politecnico di Milano, where she is currently Full Professor.

She was principal investigator in the EC-funded H2020 project UnCoVerCPS (2015-2019), FP6 project iFly (2007-2011) and FP7 project MoVeS (2010-2013). Previously, she was work-package leader in the EC-funded FP5 project HYBRIDGE (2002-2005).

She is currently member of the editorial board of Automatica, IEEE Transactions on Network Systems and Cyber Physical Systems as associate editor. Previously she was member of the editorial board of European Journal of Control as discussion editor from 2007 to 2013, IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control as associate editor from 2009 to 2013, IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology as associate editor from 2009 to 2015, and Nonlinear Analysis: Hybrid Systems as associate editor from 2011 to 2015.

She is member of the IFAC Technical Committee on Discrete Event and Hybrid Systems, of the IEEE Control Systems Society Conference Editorial Board and of the EUCA Conference Editorial Board.

She is and has been active in the IEEE Control Systems Society (CSS) and International Federation on Automatic Control (IFAC).
She was Vice-President for Conference Activities of the IEEE CSS in 2016 and 2017, Editor of the Electronic Publications of the IEEE CSS from 2013 to 2015, and elected member of the IEEE CSS Board of Governors for the triennium 2015-2017.

She is IFAC Vice-President Conferences, chairing the Conference Board for the triennium 2020-23. Previously, she was appointed member of the IFAC Policy Committee for a triennium from 2017 to 2020.

She is also a member of SIGBED Board of Directors.

She has been member of the program committees of several international conferences and either organizing or contributing to invited sessions, workshops, and tutorials. She was co-chair of the 21st ACM International Conference on Hybrid Systems: Computation and Control (HSCC 2018).

She is co-program chair of IEEE Conference on Decisione and Control 2020 and program chair of IEEE Conference on Decisione and Control 2021.

In 2018, she received the IEEE CSS Distinguished Member Award for contributions to stochastic, hybrid, and distributed control systems and outstanding service to the Control Systems Society related to electronic publications and conference activities.

In 2019 she has been elevated to IEEE Fellow, effective 1 January 2020, with the following citation: for contributions to stochastic, hybrid and distributed control systems theory.
